Abstract
This term paper examines the harmful consequences bullying can have on an individual. The psychological repercussions bullying can have on the victim and the bully. The author lays emphasis on why bullying takes place more in the middle school and what measures can be taken by the school authorities and parents to prevent it in order to create a happy and peaceful environment. Lastly, the some true life stories that resulted in either social isolation or suicide due to bullying.

Adolescence is the most challenging period in an individual’s life as in this phase of life a teenager is developing emotionally, psychologically and physically. The need to be accepted by the peers and the opposite sex is very strong in this phase of life. Teenagers are involved in getting to know themselves and prepare them for the future challenges life may present them.Many teenagers get involved in sex, drugs, alcohol etc to be accepted by their fellows. Bullying is a common problem during the middle school and it must not be taken very lightly by parents and school authorities. In many instances bullying has even resulted in depression and suicide (Erickson, 2005). The main causes of bullying can be jealousy, fear of competition, seeking attention or anger. The perpetrators are mainly insecure and coward individuals who use bullying techniques to increase their social image among the peers.
