Essay (General)
Abstract
This term paper defines computer viruses and how they affect the average performance of the personal computer. A computer virus is harmful software that is designed to interrupt the performance of the PC through replicating itself and infecting important files of the operating system thus resulting in corrupt software. The computer may not be able to function smoothly and weird things such as automatic deletion of files and programs may occur causing system failure. The author of the term paper discusses different types of viruses in terms of damage they can cause and the programs that can be used to protect the computer from any harm.
From the Paper
A computer virus is destructive software designed by humans to destroy the files and hardware of other computers (Edward, 2008). The function of a computer virus is similar to biological virus where the computer virus replicates itself into various computer files. In both the types the virus seeks a weak point. In the case of computers the weak point can be an expired antivirus software program that is used to protect the computer from foreign destructive files. In the case of biological virus if the immune system of a human is weak the virus multiplies itself and finds itself a host. The way a computer virus affects a PC depends on the type of virus it is being infected with.
