Abstract
This term paper discusses about Alzheimer’s disease, its affects and treatment. Alzheimer is a disease in which a person affected cognitively declines continuously until the point where he/she no longer recognizes the self and even the loved ones. The author explains who are vulnerable to this disease and whether it can be cured if diagnosed at earlier stages. Furthermore the writer also discusses the role stem cell research can play to treat the disease effectively.

Alzheimer’s disease is a mental disease in which a person affected experiences progressive cognitive decline. In the initial stages of this disease an individual shows signs of memory loss by not being able to remember the names and tasks he or she performed during the course of a day. Some scientific results suggest that the disease results from an increased secretion of a specific protein called beta-amyloid protein in the brain that results in nerve cell death (Crystal, 2010). The major factor contributing to the disease is aging. On average the disease effects people above 65 years of age. Alzheimer’s can be inherited if someone from the family has the disease. As the disease progresses short term memory and intellectual abilities decline. A person may find it difficult to perform simple mathematical operations such as subtraction and addition. Eventually a stage comes when one is not able to take care of him/herself and becomes completely dependent on others…
